Dear friend,

The god is not represented with the arm raised like the Baal-Reshef you found at Ras Shamra, but the bull's horns (and the skulls found in the vicinity) as well as a small bronze harpe which was still near the statue's right hand at the time of discovery tend to show that it is Baal. I thought of El, but the relief you found at Ras Shamra shows him bearded, and if the bull skulls really belonged to young animals there is more chance that the god is Baal. I would obviously be very grateful if you would let me know what you think of it.

The enclosed photo of the god reaches you a little late, but you will kindly excuse it. As soon as the statue was found it was taken to the Museum where it was locked in the "strong room" until my return to Nicosia. It was then that we were able to clean and photograph it.

As soon as the weather is better I intend to go to Enkomi and prepare the report for the Academy. You will therefore excuse me if this report reaches you a little late.

With my respects to Mrs and Miss Schaeffer and best regards to you
