Monsieur Paul Pironin.

Dear Pironin,

Thank you for your news. As a good treasurer you are pessimistic and far-sighted. So if I have not arrived in time, I have instructed Barclay's to put £ 200/0/0 at your disposal again at the end of the month, and I have asked Dikaios to advance you the £ 200/0/0 that remain to him, if, because of the strikes and the cholera, I should be delayed beyond measure. In that case, the workmen and the expenses must be reduced. But I think this eventuality will not arise.

I ask you to turn each shilling twice in your pocket before taking it out! But on the other hand, do not fear that I will leave you to die in exile in Cyprus as of old, as the Hittite kings did with their friends!

Believe me, my dear Pironin, to be sincerely yours.

P.S. Your sister having been worried, I reassured her and telephoned her yesterday that you were well. P.P.S. I hope that Forrer helps you well and likes the work of excavation architect.
