FRENCH CONSULAR AGENCY AT LARNACA (ISLAND OF CYPRUS)

No. 624

Printed: République Française

LARNACA 23 December 1948

Dear Mr Claude Schaeffer

Director of the French Archaeological Mission Beirut

Sir,

Further to my letter No. 644 of 16 of this month, I hasten to inform you that Barclays Bank has just credited me with £ 993.1.3cp, the proceeds of the transfer of £ 994.18.8d requested by Monsieur the Consul of France in the Islands of Cyprus and Malta.

There is a difference, first of all, of £ 5.1.4d between the sum paid by the Consul and the £ 1000 of your credit. This sum is further reduced by the brokerage costs between Malta and Larnaca, and I therefore have no more at your disposal than £ 993.1.3 cp.

In accordance with your instructions I address today to Mr Megaw, in his capacity as Director of the Department of Antiquities Cyprus, a cheque for £ 118.15.0.

There therefore remains only £ 874.6.3cp belonging to you, which I am going to transfer to your account at Famagusta. I can only ask you to send me urgently the receipt requested by Monsieur P. Armand (in triplicate) so that the Consulate may be covered. ./.

Thanking you in advance, Please accept, Sir, the assurance of my very high consideration. I would also add the expression of my best wishes for you, your family and your undertakings, on the occasion of these festive days.
