CONSULAR AGENCY OF FRANCE AT LARNACA (ISLAND OF CYPRUS)
Printed: République Française
LARNACA 16 December 1948
No. 644
Monsieur Claude Shaeeffer Institut Français Beirut
Dear Sir,
I did not fail, upon receipt of your letter of 19 November, to forward it to Mr P. ARMAND, Consul of France in Malta and Cyprus. It was indeed the Consulate that was to transmit to me the £ 1000 still to be received for the 1948 excavation campaign.
By letter of 8 December the Consul informs me that he has just asked Barclays Bank to hand over to me, for you, the sum of £ 1000 intended to complete the credit of £ 1400 opened to the French archaeological mission for the year 1948.
The Consul adds that I must acknowledge receipt of this remittance to him and send him as soon as possible, in triplicate, the receipt for this sum duly signed by you.
I therefore take the liberty of asking you to be so kind as to send to Barclays Bank in Famagusta a receipt (in triplicate) for the total sum of £ 1400 (£ 400 already transmitted and £ 1000 to be transmitted). For my part, as soon as the Bank has informed me of the arrival of this sum, I shall instruct it to hand over to Mr Megaw £ 118.15.0 and to carry the balance to the credit of your account, and to send me the receipts you will have sent to it. In this way I shall have complied with your instructions and those of my superior.
I hope that once these transfer operations are completed everything will be ready for a successful 1949 campaign, which will give us the pleasure of seeing you on the Island.
I take this opportunity eagerly to offer you, as well as Madame and Mademoiselle Schaeffer, my best wishes for the Christmas and New Year holidays, and to ask you to please accept, Dear Sir, the assurance of my most devoted sentiments.
