Dear Megaw,

Thank you for your letter of april 28th with the leaflets on his way back to Paris.

I reply to the different points you raise.

Meeting in England or Paris. I shall be in Oxford from June 24th to 27/28th and then 2 or 3 days in London. If dates coincide we could meet out there. Of course if you arrive earlier and come to Paris, my wife and I would be delighted to ask you both out to St.Germain.

Please hand the enclosed letter to Dikaios.

Yours sincerely,

I have to proceed first to Beyrouth for discussions there and at Damascus and would return probably by air to the island on Sept. 5 or 6th to take over the dig. Pending my arrival, Pitoin and Forrer now well trained, can begin opening the area we intend to examine. Dikaios' supervision, if he could manage, would therefore be required only for a few days at the beginning of my season and perhaps not continuously if he wishes it. The same situation would eventually arise end of September or the first week of October if I have to leave earlier than my staff. Perhaps these dates would be more convenient for your own plans.

Perhaps I could also reverse my plan and go first on arrival a few days to Enkomi to arrange the start, then hop over to Beyrouth and Damascus for a few days and return to Enkomi.

Memorandum of 21st Nov. 47 and Licence. Thank you for having put these matter right.

Publication, Enkomi I. I am glad my proposal is accepted. We can discuss details in September or early October. When you are back in the island. Article I.L.N. Received Dikaios' contribution. I am adding mine and sending the lot this week to London.

Practical matters. In order to reduce the heavy cost of lodging in Famagusta and journeying out to Enkomi twice daily, I would like to house Pitoin and Forrer this year nearer the dig, either in the dig house or at St. Barnabas Monastery where Dikaios has fixed his quarters and where the Swedes also had lodged. Perhaps I could also stay there. If not I would go to Famagusta and stay the day out at Enkomi taking picnic luncheon at the dig house.

Division of the 1946-47 finds. They could be arranged together with the division of the 1948-49 material. I am returning with the bronze hoard in order that our material be complete for the operation. I think it will be possible to avoid cutting your beautiful statue in half... It would help me for further support, if I bring something
