Pardigon par Cavalaire s/Mer (Var) 20 - VII - 53. 20 Juillet 53
Dear M. Megaw, Your letter dated 14. July for which I thank you has been received here from where I wrote you on the 9th. I am glad to know that your last campaign of excavations at Enkomi in the agreed areas is well in hand and I wish you the best of success. I would be glad, as alread said, to receive the news, as soon as possible. If the road is blocking your research at the eastern end of the town wall and you would like to finish here after its diversion, that could certainly be arranged by agreement with the French Mission after the termination of the combined enterprise. I have received Antiquity at the time of publication with the Note on the tablet fragment. I am grateful for the prints which I shall pass on to Masson. Unfortunately, the reading seems very difficult. In a note sent to AFO, I referred to the article in Antiquity and ventured the idea that the state of preservation reminds me of the sherds & other finds made in the sand & gravel layers washed down the West- East - streets, opposite of building 18 (see Enk.-Alas. I.) I have not my papers here, but I think the time for renewal of my licence at Enkomi may soon approach. If so, may I ask you to be good enough
