Preliminary publication - After having compared my conclusions with your curator's essai, I hope you will agree that the remaining differences in opinion are too important to publish now, and before your excavations have reached the rock, preliminary conclusions concerning stratigraphical and chronological matters. I have shown in my letter written to you after my visit of your department's excavations in 1950, that I am ready to revise my opinion, if I think that they are no longer in harmony with the stratigraphical observations. You could therefore trust the sincerity of my advice when I say to you : finish first the excavation of the mainbuilding (where the statue has been found) and establish its relationship to the underlying levels and its date of foundation, not only with the help of the evidence above the main floor (=overline{V}) or in its surface, but from below, starting the stratigraphical, ceramological and chronological sequence from the rock, which is the only safe way to establish the date of foundation of the "Temple" building.
