Dear Megaw,

Thank you for your letter of Jan. 27th and its content which arrived safely including the new air photograph.

I am grateful for the drawings and photographs of the vases of our 1950 dig. May I ask you to tell me if the big completed drawing and the pencil sketch 1/2 scale and the photograph of the sidesposted jug represent all the same vessel. I think it is so. But my memory is not safe about it.

I would be grateful for sending me copies of all preliminary notices you or Dik. publishing about the Enkomi excavations how ever short they may be. I do not think you are right when you say that nobody attaches weight to what is said in this sort of archaeological reportage. If the notices are published by you or Dik. they will be considered of value and especially as the periodicals in which they are published are rated as serious scientific papers. In any case I use these sort of preliminary reports as definit information. I refer in this respect to Furumark's notice in AJA 1948, p. 531 as an expression of his opinions of the stratigraphy and chronology of his site and others do the same.

If therefore you include in your reports information of this sort they will be used and I shall and must refer to it as they appear be for my volume is out. So I can only repeat what I said: please do not say anything about the date of the construction of your building before you have in hand more information and before your next campaign is over.

Do you think it possible to ask the RAF Cyprus to make a new photograph of the big building which since the first photos have been taken has been considerably enlarged? If so please request the photgrapher to include Dik. area and our long mouth-onset trench 1949.
