Dear Schaeffer,
Thank you for your letter of 25th July. I note that you are going first to Syria in September and shall expect to hear later on what is the probable date of your arrival in Cyprus. I look forward to discussing the outstanding problems with you and Dikaios then.
Meanwhile Dikaios has just stopped work at Enkomi, leaving some money in hand in case supplementary work is thought desirable. If not, we can spend it on removing dumps, which have again risen to large dimensions.
The north wall trench has yielded a good stretch of wall which is shown to link up with a long stretch of wall across the road, disguised as a field wall running up to the escarpment. In the other area the best find was an intact tomb in the south road. This was used over a long period and contained 3 Mycenean amphorae and some nice gold - though not as nice as in your tomb 2. This will probably facilitate matters when the division is done.
Dikaios will now have to revise his report in the light of your comments and of his new discoveries, though we are not making any plans for its publication until you come. In this connection we should be obliged if you would bring with you, or send, one copy of the text and also the plates of photographs and the drawings, for of these we have no duplicate sets.
Yours sincerely,
