Dear Megaw, Thanks for your letter of March 21st. I hope you are safely back from Alexandria after an interesting dig. So I answer you to-day, before leaving to Philadelphia.
Enkomi I. I thought that the exploration of the earlier levels at Diki's dig were scheduled for this years season. Indeed I saw, that he did not go back down on most part of his buildings to the original levels. How can he then conclude something safely about the original building & its chronology? He so often now already changed his opinion that I am getting astonished. He better refrains from making now conclusions about the time of construction of the original building until he has really finished his excavation. Some soundings will not suffice. I would be grateful to y influence him and caution him without telling him what I think. He has too few experience at Enkomi yet and his analyse of the floor levels was in several cases wrong, I believe. In any case, he should not conclude too far & nothing about the XV - XIVth c. levels before having excavated them all over his building. He has enough important things to say about the XIII - XII & XIth c levels.
Margin left, written sideways: We enjoy every moment of our tour here. | I collect a lot of mend. on the way.
Forrer. Thank you for having helped him to the end. I wonder that my cheque did not arrive. - If it did not come mean time, please send the inclosed letter to the Barclay bank at Famagousta.
