Bronze Bowl from Tomb II. I prefer your suggestion that we try the British Museum and am writing to them to ask if they will do it without charge. That would be the best solution as we could not properly contribute to the cost of what our law defines as the excavator's responsibility. If I get a satisfactory reply, I shall arrange for the British Embassy in Paris to undertake its conveyance to the British Museum as you suggest.
1947 Bronze hoard. I am glad to hear the 3 missing items have turned up. Will it be alright if we extend the loan of these and of Coche's sherds until 1st October next?
1949 Finds on Loan. Thank you for your revised list made at Beyrouth. This will serve in substitution for the earlier lists pending the further checking which you said would be done in the Louvre. You may find it useful to know that all the numbers in your Beirut list occur on the original one (assuming the repetition of 52,56,58,59 in the former to be a slip) with one exception: 4926 but this [handwritten: is] probably the same as 4926B on your first list. After careful revision of your original lists, in which there are some double entries, I find that, ignoring the double entries, only the following items are present there but absent in the Beyrouth list.
4004 ) 4015 ) All these occur also on the 4026 second entry ) list made by the Museum staff 4041 ) at the time of packing here, 4108A ) including the second entry of 5257 ) 4026.
4671 ) 4864 ) These occur only on your 4924 ) original list. 4981 ) 5055 )
I notice that quite a few of these are among the items you noted "missing" at Beyrouth.
Proprietorship of land bought at Enkomi. You will recall that in my letter on this subject dated 21st October last I said I would seek authority to pay into your account any rent received from cultivators of land jointly acquired while the joint excavations are still in progress. This (together with the other items in the same paragraph of that letter) has now been approved by the Government and I have paid £16.5.0, the rents so far received, into your account. There will be more this year.
Communiqué. I enclose a cutting of this in the form in which it was published. I added the names of your assistants as you had previously asked that this should not be forgotten. All concerned appreciate your thanks - but we were only too glad to be able to help.
House additions. We have now called for tenders and I shall let you know what is the best offer received in due course.
Acquisition of additional plots. I note that we must wait until your 1950 credit is available.
Payment to Petrakides. I shall pay him the £7 when he calls.
Yours sincerely,
