Mr P. Dikaios.

My dear friend,

Among your objects found not far from the god of Enkomi- Alasia, there is one of those steatite seals typical of the beginning of the Iron Age, 12th-11th c., I add here a sketch which will remind you of the piece. It depicts a warrior I believe, kneeling behind his shield. I hope that you reproduce this piece in your report, if possible with a good drawing and a photograph enlarged of its impression. I am writing a general article on these seals and would like to be able to refer to your publication.

Have you found other pieces of the same type and of the same period in your excavations at Enkomi, or does your museum possess any whose provenance is known? In that case please be so kind as to have made for me, if possible immediately, impressions and a photograph. If you wish, Forrer could take charge of drawing your piece or pieces from Enkomi and also the best among those which could be in the museum.

Have you found in your excavations at Enkomi, and in which level, cylinder seals of the linear type comparable to that published by me in Missions en Chypre, p. 105, fig. 44, and also by Daniels in his report on Curium, AJA 1938, p. 268, fig. 10b?

I am delighted by the fine contribution that you have promised us for Enkomi I; I would like to send the volume to press as soon as possible and ask you to send me your manuscript as soon as it is finished.

Please give Mrs Dikaios my best regards from Mrs Schaeffer and my daughter, as well as mine, and believe dear friend,
