ORDRE DE MISSION. _________________________
The Direction Générale des Relations Culturelles on the advice of the Commission des Fouilles, has entrusted Mr Claude F.A. Schaeffer, Directeur de Recherches au Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique, Conservateur des Musées de France, with the direction of the excavations and archaeological research at Ras Shamra near Latakia in Syria, at Malatya in Turkey, and at Enkomi on the island of Cyprus. It has further entrusted him with the scientific control of the excavations at Fara in Palestine.
The funds necessary for these researches have been allocated from the excavation budget of the Direction Générale des Relations Culturelles and will be placed at his disposal through the intermediary respectively of the Délégation Générale de la France au Levant in Beirut, the Embassy of France in Ankara, and the Consulate of France in Larnaca.
