Le Castel Blanc, 14 Rue Turgot, St.Germain-en-Laye, (Seine et Oise). 25 July 1950.
Dear Megaw,
Thank you for your letter of 12th July and 21st July. Being at present under heavy pressure of work at the Ministry concerning our global excavations in 1951 and with preparations for a mission in Switzerland and my departure to Syria early in September, I am at present unable to study in detail your observations. I shall do so in a weekkor so.
Meanwhile I want to express my pleasure to your and Dikaios for your objective investigation of the controversial points raised in my memorandum. I am sure it will lead to a speedy removal of the last remnants of disagreement. I wish Dikaios and you a good season and I would like to say that I am not insisting on a 50% preservation of floors V and earlier, but only on as much as necessary for eventual further study of the stratigraphical organisation of your area.
It was far from me to suspect in my colleague's opinion motives of extra-scientific nature. I had in mind the reaction of the public in the island, which is in favour of discovering a Greek ancestry as early as possible. I wal already questioned on this point two or three years ago by the Mayor of Famagusta who declared himself "a poor slave under foreign rule". It is in connection with this current of opinion that I feel some of the historical conclusions were rather adventurous and I should be shelved until further investigation provides safeguard.
Yours sincerely,
