… part of a building the plan of which was beginning to emerge, and reached the top-most floors practically everywhere.

The three months which followed the interruption of our work were exceptionally wet and cold and it was only in April that we were able to return to the site and resume digging to the lower levels of the building. After almost two months' further work we closed down early in June rather weary, having suffered much, during the whole of the spring season from the clouds of midges which infest the area.(1). However, the investigation of the building had progressed substantially, enabling me to compile the present preliminary report. Much remains to be done before the whole of the building is completely laid

(1). These midges of the Ceratopogonidae family( Leptoconops irritans, Noe)appear in the sping months in the Mesaoria, and survive until about the middle of June. Although not carrying any infectious disease, they attack humans most persistently and nothing except a strong sea breeze will deter them.
