… gravel and a few flakes which probably derived from the dressing of the limestone blocks for the walls. Similar gravel and flakes continue under floor V of room XIII and form a kind of foundation for it. It therefore appears that in the "alcove" the final floor surface was either subsequently destroyed, or more probably was never added to the foundation, which in that case would have remained exposed to serve as a floor. Indeed this surface would not have been taken to represent a floor level at all were it not for the fact that on it a rectangular area appearing as a raised platform covered with boulders was laid bare in the western part of the space. On this platform a few fragments of a large vase (Pl.XIV,2) were still lying in situ. Moreover east of the platform we observed a pit in which we found stones, baked bricks, two fragmentary querns, one pounder, two fragments of a thick limestone vessel and a fragment of clay pithos. This means that this surface was exposed and that in it the pit was dug and on it the platform was built. [handwritten: AJJ]
