infant in room VII, also floor III (Pl. XIV, 1).
These are isolated examples and we have yet to find burials with pottery of the period of the compound, e.g. the wavy line type of which there must be many in some part of the site.
The ceramic material found in the compound is impressive in quantity. It was impossible in the time available before the preparation of this report to go through the whole of the pottery found on the floors and the intermediary layers in all the rooms of the compound. But the pottery in the room chosen for examination is conclusive as regard the date at which they were in use.
The material from rooms XIV and XIII in the Main Building show that the building belongs to the LCIII period. In room XIV in the foundation of the hearth on the earliest floor, we found a valuable hoard of fragmentary vases which belong to the Mycenean IIIC: 1 period. One of these vases is a side-spouted jug (758 a on Pl. XXV, 1, 2) which is a favourite shape in the Philistine repertory. This vase together with the Philistine seal (Pl.XLII, 4) found in room X+IX
