(the earliest) in room XIII immediately to the north, the difference being only 14 cms. Now since room X + IX originally formed part of the large central unit of the Main Building, it is strange that the original floor (V) of room XIII, which is contemporary with floor V in room XIV, is not found to extend into the area occupied by room X + IX. Instead we find there what I called floor IV which has no surface floor and which contained rubble similar to that which forms the foundation of floor V in room XIII. [handwritten: between floor IV / & III] [handwritten: fill]
Before attempting to explain this let me give the ceramic evidence between this floor IV and the next floor (III), which is of good quality. Between these two floors we found a filling which contained a strong proportion of Middle Cypriot wares, base ring I, white slip I, painted wheel made (7I0 on Pl. XLI, 4, 7I7 on Pl. XLI, 4, 7I5 on pl.XLI, 3, 7I4 on Pl. XLI, 2, 7I0 on Pl. XIII, 1) and in addition a few Mycenaean IIIC: 1 fragments (7I5 e-g and 7I6 on Pl. XLI, 3).
Figure: handwritten blue annotation with a circled/bracketed mark and arrow; labels: "between floor", "IV / III", "fill"
