… and when they were refilled a new, vitiated and even inverted stratification resulted. But as already mentioned (supra. p. ...) all pits encountered were isolated and rendered innocuous by separate excavation. Only stratified material that was undisturbed and well authenticated has been collected.
After these introductory remarks we may now proceed to the examination of the ceramic material with the aim of establishing the chronology of the buildings in the compound. It has been impossible in the time available to clean and study all the material found. For the purposes of this preliminary report I have therefore selected the most important rooms and studied all the pottery found in them from the top level down to bedrock where it was reached. A selection of the pottery from the successive levels in these rooms is illustrated on plates ..?... to ..?..., where explanatory descriptions are printed opposite each plate. The rooms chosen are those which form the central part of the Main Building (XIII-XIV, IX and X) and the most important of the southern /building
