… whole structure is the central room of the Main Building and the salient enclosing the well area, bounded by the continuous walls 12, 17, 18, 19 and 20, against which subsidiary walls for the annexes abut.
North of the well area the east wing comprises three rooms, namely, starting from the north, XXIX, XV and XXVII. I consider the area containing the wells as forming part of the same wing although, as already explained, its construction links it with the central room. The plan matters more than the precise sequence of construction.
The two partition walls 25 and 27 abut on the east on wall 24. One block of wall 25 overlaps wall 20 which thus links the east wing with the central room and shows the unity of the structure. Wall 27 also abuts on the east wall of the wing but its connection with wall 20 is not seen because here we have a doorway leading from room XXIX to room XV. At this point a rubble filling, possibly the substructure of the threshold, lies against wall 20.
