Dear Mr Schaeffer,

I thank you for your registered letter of 28 January 1964 and for your good wishes. May I present to you, as well as to Madame Schaeffer, my best wishes for the year 1964?

Indeed I had read in the newspapers of your discovery of a bronze statue and I congratulate you on it. I thank you in advance for the photograph.

In my article in AA 1962 represents my definitive opinion on the date of the bronze statue found in the course of my excavations.

I regret that the publication on my excavations at Enkomi is delayed. In reality the preparation of the manuscript will still take several years, for there is very complex material that must first be gone through before beginning to write the definitive text. I have already given in preliminary reports a summary of the observations made by myself, which moreover are not very different from yours. But in the course of preparing your volume, should you need further information, I shall be happy to send it to you as far as possible.

I have as yet no idea where my publication will appear, I take the liberty of sending you a copy of paragraphs 1 to 8 of the Memorandum which ended the "Joint Expedition" and which was éstablished by yourself and the Director of Antiquities of Alore M.A.H.S. Mêgaw. The paragraphs in question relate to the publication of the results of the excavations carried out during the period of the "Joint Expedition".

Please accept, dear Mr Schaeffer, with the regards of my wife and my respectful compliments to Madame Schaeffer, the expression of my distinguished sentiments and fond memories.
