have been uncovered within the wall are older than the wall itself which was constructed in the 13th century. This area of the town was destroyed in some disaster at the end of the thirteenth century, after which the buildings were restored only to be again and finally destroyed in a fire within a few years. Early in the 12th century, the town wall was strengthened by addition of the outer row of boulders, but the area immediately within it remained free of buildings until the town was finally abandoned about 100 years later. A notable find from this area was a fragmentary tablet of baked clay inscribed on both faces with characters of the still undecipherable Cypro-minoan script. East of the road the foundations of what may have been a large tower or bastion have been uncovered.
