A monument vieux de 3.000 ans is discovered near Famagusta by Claude Schaeffer

Nicosia, 9 February. — Professor Claude Schœffer, the renowned French archaeologist, announced on Wednesday his discovery at Alasia, near Famagusta, of the ruins of a vast building apparently dating from the 13th century B.C. This ancient monument, whose remains Professor Schœffer recovered following major excavations, suffered greatly over the centuries from fires, earthquakes and also from "stone pillagers", villagers who, with no respect for the past, came to take materials from the ruined palaces to build their hovels. The building at Alasia, which seems to have been a temple, nevertheless still possesses fairly well-preserved ceramic floors, as well as some pottery. (AFP).
