c/ The public building.
It occupies the whole north-east angle of the crossroads of the second east-west street and the main north-south street, on which it opens. It measures about 19 m. W.-E. by 16 m. N.-S., and is distinguished from the neighbouring constructions by its walls of large dressed blocks ("sahlar") and its deep foundation trenches, which make it possible to trace its limits even where the materials were removed in the course of time.
A north-south wall divides it into two parts: to the West, a vestibule 8 m. wide, and to the East a cella 11 m. wide.
1/ The vestibule of the public building.
In its present state, it is bounded on the North by a wall almost completely levelled, also in its eastern part, and which joins an enormous block encroaching on the north-south street. Its western and southern limits are marked by large blocks deeply sunk, without it being known whether there were continuous walls there or only a kind of portico. Towards the middle of the western façade, perforated or notched blocks are probably the remains of the pivot of a monumental door, which a widening of the street from 3,50 to 5 m. perhaps allows us to locate in the northern part of this façade.
In the median axis of this narthex, square pier bases can be noted: the two most elongated measure nearly 50 cm. on a side and are made of two blocks fitted and notched to allow the insertion of a tenon; another, placed at the 2/5 towards the South, is made of a single stone of 70 x 60 cm., and the block lying along above it is perhaps a pier element. The spacing between this one and the third allows a fourth pier to be restored. This row of piers can be interpreted in two ways: either the vestibule was entirely roofed and they supported the ceiling beams, or they served to support a canopy leaning against the façade of the cella.
In front of this cella, one sees in the vestibule a row of rubble stones, probably a course fallen from the wall, in front of an earth bench, visible on the plan. In the middle of this … continues
