20.138Cup in ceramic "monochrome".T. 1907
Pinkish red terracotta,(drawing)(under wall 2)
fine, hard, resonant, porousDromos.
with numerous deformed bubbles
visible. Visible temper fairly abundant,
brown and white, fine. Holes in the surface
not burst.
Usual technique. Handle technique
as 20.137. The interior edge of the rim, placed
low and rounded, seems to indicate that the top of the
rim is applied, as it seems to correspond to the
interior thickenings of the large monochrome cups
(cf 20.82 et seq.). Traces of scraping on exterior, and
traces Engobe of vertical smoothing as
20.120 (width of tool: 1,2 to 1,3 cm).
Slip without brush marks, except where it
is worn (interior, left). Brown-red tending to
orange, with a browner area to the right of the base.
Fine but completely matt: intermediate quality between
20.137 and, for example, 20.129.
Shape: base moderately omphalos, shoulder
with facet sloping upward, crest
rim sloping like the facet, with slight thickening
interior (as 20.112). Handle of the thin type.
