Enkomi - Alasia, 31 October 1966. Dear Mr Ambassador, the Director of Antiquities has handed me 4 copies of an "agreement" concerning the Camp of the Archaeological Mission at Enkomi for me to sign and return to him for signature by the Minister. Before signing I should be glad if an expert could examine this agreement to ascertain whether it is acceptable, particularly from the point of view that the ground on which the camp was erected has been jointly purchased by the Antiquities Service and by the Mission. On the other hand it seems to me unacceptable that the "landlord" reserves to himself § 4 (VIII) the right to deal with our plantations, e.g. to cut and remove them, whereas we, the "tenant", under § 4 (V), may do so only with the authorisation of the "landlord". It seems to me that the latter should exercise his right (§ 4, VIII) only in agreement (and written agreement with us). - As I am being pressed to sign, I should be grateful to you for giving me your opinion as soon as possible. Thanking you in advance, please accept, Dear Mr Ambassador, the expression of my most devoted sentiments. Yours C F A Schaeffer
