Enkomi - Alasia, 13 October 1953.
Dear Master, I thank you for your letter of 2 Oct. and am pleased with the news you were good enough to give me.
Our work has progressed very well here and we can finish, as planned, by the 15th. The city enclosure is now traced and cleared along its entire length, which exceeds 1200 m, and we now know now thus the exact extent of the city during its last period (12th - 11th c.). No construction extra muros. A chicane gate has been found in the middle of the west perimeter at the end of one of the main streets east - west of the city. The fact that no vestige has been found in contact with the exterior face of the enclosure that is earlier than the 12th/-11th\ c. B.C. leads me to suppose that we will find, inside the perimeter, the remains of a slightly older fortification (14th - 13th c.), of which, to the N, we have some traces, to be followed up. The monument is splendid and probably the most complete of the cyclopean enclosures known so far.
