chicane was found in the middle of the west perimeter, where the enceinte describes zigzags allowing flanking fire. Two gates still to be cleared pierced the wall to the N. and to the S. The enceinte enclosed a town of the size of the present town of Kyrenia [illegible] (north coast of the island). The population must have been between 5000 and 10.000 souls. § The archaeological materials found in contact with the enceinte attest that it was used mainly during the last period of existence of the city in the XIIth - XIth centuries B.C. when the Mycenaean town was occupied, from 1200 c., by the Sea Peoples [illegible]. In their turn, they succumbed to an invasion of as yet unknown origin which around 1050 caused the final desertion of the city once so prosperous, Enkomi - Alasia, later replaced by Salamis.
