The inner facing of the wall was made of smaller stones and blocks. In between is a filling of hard compressed earth or stones which is level with the top of the facings. On the On this plateform was set the brickwall of nearly 4 yards thickness which has entirely disappeared except for fallen parts found at the foot of the wall stonefoundation. The bricks have mostly been dissolved by the rain or floodwater of the nearby st "potamos tou Kambiou". The height of the wall, considering its thickness, must have been considerable, but it cannot, at present been estimated. With its massif stonefoundation of Cyclopean dimensions it is one of the best preserved and most impressive prehistoric town fortifications so far excavated in the island and the whole mediterranean & near eastern area.

So far, one town wall gate has been found in the middle of the west (or landside) wall, where this one of the main east-west streets reaches the wall. The two extremities of the wall here are not in the same alinement. To help the defense, the system here adopted is that of the gate with chicane, known in many other ancient walled cities, but here found in its oldest version in the island.
