no bonding exists between the two courses of masonry.
A somewhat different situation is observed on the South side. Here too there is a sort of buttress about 1,10 m long built like the West buttress, of small blocks, with, in addition, a few larger blocks projecting towards the West in the lower part. This buttress rests on the South on the natural rock cut to receive the tomb. The wall of the tholos is preserved to a greater height, and reaches the 6th course above the foundation. In this wall is a course of large stone slabs; one of them, in coarse-grained sandstone, clearly projects towards the South and on it come to rest stones of the buttress. This observation indicates the purpose of such a course: the outward tilting of the brick vault is thus counteracted. Above, it is again construction in courses of brick.
On the South-West side the wall of the tomb has been sufficiently well cleared for a study to be made of it. The bricks used have straight sides and are not curved as might have been expected. Their shape is trapezoidal: long side varying between 40,5 and 43 cm; short side: 32-33 cm; h.: 11 cm; other sides: 31 cm (cf. drawing).
