Monday 17 October 1966Second week of excavations at the area of the West Enclosure - Increase in the number of diggers through the hiring of three newworkmen this morning, which brings the effective of men to 21 (plus the women, in number of ten). In trench East-West 1, immediately to the East of the Door, the number of sherds increases clearly from 1 m depth (= vicinity of the surface of the Street, Cypriot Iron I). —
We resume, in trenches North and South the tedious task of removing the layer of sterile mud covering the interior paved areas inside the enclosure, which are beginning to reappear. Despite a stormy sky (which breaks over Nicosia), we are spared the heavy rain and the excavations can continue until 16 h without difficulty. In Nicosia, Mr and Mrs W. Forrer photographed the ingot god.
