Monday 17 October 1966Second week of excavations at Area of the West Enclosure - Increase in the number of pickmen through the hiring of three newcomers this morning, which brings the effective of men to 21 (plus the women, at a number of ten). In trench East-West 1, immediately to the East of the Door, the number of sherds increases clearly from 1 m depth (= near the surface of the Street, of Cypriot Iron I ). —

Work resumes, in trenches North and South, the tedious task of removing the layer of sterile mud covering the paved areas inside the enclosure, which are beginning to reappear. Despite a stormy sky (which breaks over Nicosia), we are spared the heavy rain and the excavations can continue until 16 h without difficulty. In Nicosia, Mr and Mrs W. Forrer photographed the god with the ingot.
