Monday 26 October 1970In three areas of 6 W, we reach the layers of grey ash containing sherds of "Mycenaean III C 1" (or Close Style).
In the room with the bronze weight(p. 25), and at a distance of some thirty centimetres north of it, C. K uncovered a steatite cylinder pt. 1960 = 21.28 in the space between the foundation stones and the fine floor white, with several successive repairs. This cylinder lay within the thickness of the floor IV , and some sherds of bowls were recovered with thin walls and red-brown painted decoration on a light slip . ( = Myc III C 1 ...). It may be considered, despite the difference in level, that this cylinder is contemporary with the knife with an ivory handle, but earlier than the engraved knife of 1966, found in the neighbouring room, on the floor III .
