Monsieur le Professeur Claude SCHAEFFER Ecole Française d'Athènes.

Maître et cher Monsieur,

I hope that you will have had an interesting journey when you find this letter by which I inform you of the developments of the latest research in the West zone of the rampart. After a week of work in the two trenches, one to the North and the other to the South of the East-West street which leads to the West gate of the town, we have obtained the following results:

Area North (Supervision J-Cl. Schaeffer) The architecture of the first levels is fairly poorly preserved but the most interesting discovery consists of two identical cylinders but one larger than the other. The larger one measures: 32 m/m in height for a diameter of: 9 m/m. The smaller one: 22 m/m in height for a diameter of: c. 7 m/m. They are of blackish stone, but we have not cleaned them, leaving this task to the Nicosia laboratory if you deem it necessary when you see them.
