1st day of excavations
Wednesday 15 September 1965At the western (presumed) end of the road or central street of Enkomi-Alasia the street called Résidence 18, oriented E - W., we open the area of the enceinte on the western side of the city, on either side of a block larger than the others and which appears to form part of the "West Gate" of the City. While Mr William Johnstone superwill supervise the North area, I will take charge of the South area. We start at 6h 30 with a first team of 7 workmen, distributed mainly on the South side over 14 metres in length. The zero point, common to the 2 areas, lies on the large block, at the offset of the "West Gate".
