2nd week
Monday 20 September 1965Opening of a new trench, only 2 metres wide, in order to re-establish the general alignment with the North trench (WJ). This trench lies immediately to the E. of the one which contains the "paving" in rubble, internal to the enceinte wall and should make it possible to understand better this paving, attributable to the Iron I period on the basis of the rare sherds of coarse red pottery uncovered in the interstices of the stones of the rubble. The day is marked by the uncovering of several hearths, level I in the North trench, and the identification of numerous structures in red mud-brick bonded with clay greenish, forming the walls on foundations of rubble stone.
