In the top course on the N side, the stone nearest the side of the Trench is slightly bossed. ?, has it been reused at this late period from a building of an earlier period in the city? This channel excavated to depth of c 2.40m from surface : towards the bottom its width has been encroached upon by apparently a slip of the stones of the fill of Level II. From the N/S face of the E edge of the Trench it can be seen that while no regular stratigraphy can be detected, from c -0.90 m to -2.40 m the face shows a mixture of sherds, bones gritty sand in localized patches, occasional flecks of charcoal and chocolate brown and greenish-grey earth. Doesn't seem to be regularly stratified enough to be road or rubbish pit. Next trench should shed more light on its use.
