N.B. see p 24 22 f. for / revision on fuller / excavation of IV.belong to this level. It is dark grey-brown in colour Between II and I lies an intervening level of brick relatively well preserved in courses apparently with horizontal streaks of grey-green mud-clay. Level II is c 4 cm thick. III = narrow white limestone powder (chalk?) floor. Between II & III c 20 cms of fallen brick level (brick always compounded with largish white grits) IV = lower white floor. Between it and III there are 15 cm chocolate brown earth ending in a streak of brick : followed by a further 15 cm of lighter brown earth ending in a narrow burnt layer just above floor IV (-2.40 m) Approaching level IV some milk bowl (white slip II) sherds found.

N.B. This sounding is quite fortuitous since almost everywhere else in Tr. 2-12 N stone fill of level II extends across trench.
