This stone fill has become a general feature of the Trench appearing in the following areas :- Tr 3N, [where as here its E edge (ie the E edge of its containing wall) is c. 1.30 m from the E edge of the city wall], Tr 7N, 8N, 9N - 12N. Surmounting this stone fill were constructions in brick whose precise shapes are difficult to determine (attempt will be made later). The tumble from these brick constructions appears generally both on W and E side of cyclopaean city wall. The containing walls for the stone fill seem rather irregularly spaced from the cyclopaean city wall (while in Trs. 3N 5N its c 1.30m E of city wall as noted above, it is not yet visible in Trs. 9N - 12N being still perhaps under the unexcavated E part of the Trench. The sounding noted on previous page sheds some light on the dating of these constructions
