Wednesday 18 December 1963Day devoted to Oxford (Museum Ashmolean) where I have the good fortune to go through the stores, thanks to the kindness of Mr H. W. Catling, Assistant Keeper, who has just completed several studies of Cypriot archaeology. According to him, the English excavations at Kouklia have yielded pottery absolutely identical to that of the Enkomi Sanctuary, but the material is at Manchester, at Edinburgh or at Kouklia (local Museum)

In the Museum, several geometric vessels Greek bear snakes with undulating bodies on the shoulder and neck (cf. pithos with serpent, from Enkomi 62).

Return to London in the evening.
