Monday 16 September 1963Opening of the excavations of the XVIth campaign at ENKOMI, at 6h 30, with 33 workmen, distributed over the trenches North Temple (supervision J. Lagarce) and West Paving. During this first day's work, the excavation again reveals the high frequency of old excavations "pits or badjas", as well as in the North Temple trench as in the West Paving trench, where one reached the average depth of 0 m 50, where the archaeological ground is still in situ. Very few sherds at first, in the 25 first centimetres. Much more abundant afterwards. – In the area of the Sanctuary of the Centaurs the clearing of the earth and sand brought back is undertaken with the help of the women; one notes thus with satisfaction the good state of the site.
