Monday 16 September 1963Opening of the excavations of the 16th campaign at Enkomi, at 6h 30, with 33 workmen distributed over the trenches North Temple ( supervision J. Lagarce ) and West Paving. During this first day of excavation [illegible] again the great frequency of the old excavations "pits or boxes", as well in the North Temple trench as well as in the West Paving trench, where one reaches the average depth of 0 m 50, where the archaeological ground is still in place. Very few sherds at first, in the first 25 centimetres. Much more abundant afterwards. - In the Sanctuary zone at the ingot, the clearing of the earth and sand brought in is undertaken with the help of the women; one notes thus with satisfaction the good state of the site.
