Inventory of pottery types distinguished from the sherds recovered from the 'kiln' (not one complete vessel was recovered) The first step in compiling the inventory was to number the sherds according to the levels noted 1-4 thus e.g. Eng } Enk } 63 K 1 Eg }

It was immediately apparent in the numbering that sherds of the same vessel were appearing from many different levels e.g the fragments of a White Slip I bowl - to be recorded later with the Milk Bowls - (possibly only 1/3 complete) came from the following levels - 2, 4, 5, 7, 9, 10, 11, 13, 14, 15, 17 : i.e. there is no real stratification in the kiln whatever, the entire contents having been thoroughly mixed in successive robbings.
