The palace of this period, i.e. of the first half of the 14th c. and which must no doubt go back to the 13th c., remains to be established.

We have reason to suppose that it forms the obstacle in the eastern part of the town where our excavations have revealed several buildings as well as tombs contemporary with the 18th dynasty. Our stratigraphic excavations at the site of the palace of the last Mycenaean period at Enkomi, we have been able to extend the limits of this vast structure, have made it possible to recognise its architecture and its layout.

Its walls are everywhere founded on the rock, the building having been erected on available ground, on the edge of the older quarters of the town.

After having been burnt, the palace was covered over in several pothouses and bronze foundry workshops, whose installations cover four successive levels overlying the building.

The history of this residence, which we are going to summarise in chronological order, faithfully reflects the vicissitudes of life in this town of Cyprus during its final period, that of the 13th to 11th centuries, one of the most obscure periods in the archaeology of the island, and of the history of the Mediterranean countries in general.

As it will not be possible within the framework of your communication to detail an archaeological material comprising several thousand pieces, which are distributed stratigraphically over six different levels, I would like to point out that his report on the excavation campaigns of 1949 and 1950, a volume entitled: Enkomi-Alasia I, is going to press and will appear by the end of the year.
