This interpretation and the chronology on which it rests seem to me to need revising.

We come here to support new proposals already presented to this Academy by the Hellenists.

If one wishes to reconcile the traditional colonisation of Cyprus by the Achaeans, with the data now revealed by my stratigraphic excavations at Enkomi, the event would have to be pushed back to the end of the 14th c., or at the latest, to the 13th c.

Dans ce cas, la ville fondée par Teucros ne pourrait plus être the one [handwritten: currently] currently identified with Salamis [handwritten: whose] whose ruins are buried in the coastal forests opposite Enkomi.

It would correspond to an Achaean settlement on the site we are currently excavating [handwritten: at Enkomi] and whose palace found in the western part [handwritten: of the site] of Enkomi, where space was available, constitutes the most significant building.

This Achaean settlement at Enkomi, amplified in tradition into the foundation of a new city, may have brought about a change of the old name: Alasia may have become Salamis, a name which preserves the root of the ancient toponym.

The destruction of the city found at Enkomi, a destruction dated by our finds to the 11th c., would then have to be linked to a quite different event in Greece and in the Aegean much later.

According to the archaeological indications gathered so far, we envisage an invasion linked with the events in Greece and in the Aegean, at the time of the appearance of the Dorian Dorians.

The repercussion of this event may have been felt in Cyprus, obviously with some delay compared with Greece, where the apparition of the Dorians, according to calculations based on the information of the
