KOURION : Fales outdoor film lists, the Palace and the Theater
January - April, 1984
No original lists of Fales' outdoor films were found although there were lists for all his object films. Therefore the present set of lists was typed up from the notebooks by G. R. Edwards. There were various difficulties: some duplication of film numbers; some films were found in wrong numbered containers; many films were completely missing. But all existing films have been compared with prints pasted in the notebooks (I - XIV) and with the typed lists so that correct identity has been achieved for all films found except 58 (mostly of mosaics) which remains a problem. The film number of each film identified has been written in india ink on the film itself and each has been placed in a new container (approved by Archives) which has the identification written on the lid.
Missing films:
Nos. 42 - 58
74 - 76
Fales evidently considered the films only as illustrations for the texts of his notebooks. The entries can be understood only in conjunction with the prints in the course of reading the texts. The present effort has been undertaken in connection with the Palace. At this point I have not attempted to find out if any plans or records of the excavation of the Palace exist which would make clear the identity of the rooms to which Fales refers.
