Does not correspond at all closely with any Broneer type. The top may be compared with Types IX or XI (cf Pl.IV, 175) The body with sharp angle and low raised base may be compared with Type XIX, the "Ephesos" type (cf the inscription on this one). Date suggested for Type XI, 2nd half of 3rd cent. into 2nd cent. (contemporary with X); XIX at Corinth belongs to the time of Caesar but examples found at Sardis are dated ca. 190 BC (Broneer p.70). Broneer dates the firs moulded lamps as early as 200 BC (p.7). See also pp.21-22: "One characteristic feature of Roman lamps is the common us of human and animal figures for decoration, but this featur too originated on the Hellenistic lamps, although the rim afforded too little space for such motifs, etc." (See on th "more ambitious designs").
