Kaloriziki Tomb I (1952) M°F Kat. I, 66 #46

This, in handle zone, row of tangent semicircles, hand-drawn, closed off below by three steady stripes. Broad stripes on lower body and around base (very carelessly executed). Wide strap handles running vertically from shoulder to rim - Intact, but for chips in rim, small hole in neck, and slight crack in body. Height 36, 25 cm Diam. 32 cm

Shape preserves Myceenaean reminiscences and is not yet fully assimilated to the geometric spirit. I find no exact analogues but SCE II Pl. XCI #10 offers an analogous, perhaps more advanced artistic conception. For similar development cf. Kerameikos I Tf. 40-2 (narrow necked amphorae). Cf. also SCE I Pl. CXXVI #12.
