9 of white RED PAINTED glass in earth. Pieces of plain red ware" here.
It begins to appear that the so-called continuation of the altar wall is not so, but coincidental fallen stone.
The soil is all loose fill with much stone and occasional sherds. Among them, a handle of a jug inscribed (drawing) (in sack 7) this at 50 cm depth
Not far below this (c. 65 cm) we hit bedrock, without hitting any terracotta fill. Also, digging under some of the so-called "wall" stones, we found they were not of a wall but only fallen rubble on the surface above the "plaques." Therefore this pit was the end of our work, since it established with certainty that "Altar 2" was complete as originally excavated, and this fill actually belongs to the building to the north, against whose southern wall "Altar 2" was built.

10 ANALYSIS OF FINDS
In the corner of the N.E. room just described, the sherds show that we have to deal with two chronological stratums; the sacks from "Stratum 1" & Stratum 2" - the deep fill from the plaques down to 45 cm. - proved to contain pieces of the same objects in about equal proportions, so they were combined as Stratum 1. The 3rd "stratum" - of a much early period - becomes thus "STRATUM 2.
