DAILY RECORD OF APOTHEKE WORK
NOTE ORIGINAL ARRANGEMENT AS STORED: The terracottas and other objects, in the Fall of 1938, were stored in about 45 excavator's baskets and 6 tenekedes; of these 5 baskets and 2 tenekedes were unwashed, the rest as they had come from washing. There had been supposedly no attempt at separation except as the broken fragments came from the "altar" thus each basket was labelled according to its appropriate one of the eight seven sections (see excavator's notebook). These sections are briefly layer 1: four compass quarters, now marked thus NE 1, SE 1, SW 1, NW 1; and layer 2, 3 compass quarters (NE was filled by a projection of bed-rock), labelled SE 2, SW 2, NW 2. The only exceptions to this arrangment were: 1: a few objects, separated because of their intact state or exceptional quality. These were shelved with tickets giving provenience, in the central storeroom of the apotheke. 2: The coins, which Mr. McFadden has kept apart for study, and which I have not yet seen.
ADDITIONAL NOTE, Nov. 18th 1938 Two more exceptional groups have been brought in: 3: A basket from near the altar, labelled 1st stratum, trench 7 EH, near altar 2. 4: Four baskets of fragments recently gathered from around the altar, labelled "From near altar 2, final cleaning"
